Residential Care Specialists are responsible for the care, nurture and supervision of children/youth who reside at the Trent Hill Center for Children and Families.
Residential Care Specialists report to the Group Home Manager.
Residential Care Specialists are responsible for:
● Teaching daily self-care practices such as appropriate hygiene, time management, exercise, and rest patterns to residents in our care
● Utilizing praise to reinforce positive behaviors and social interactions.
● Preparing, serving, and teaching residents to prepare nutritious meals and snacks and eating with residents in a family-like meal setting.
● Accompanying residents on shopping trips, assisting residents with budgeting, and making positive purchasing decisions
● Working with residents on achieving formal and informal academic and independent living skills goals
● Encouraging and assisting residents in punctual attendance of scheduled daily programs (school, church, extracurricular activities)
● Documenting residents’ daily progress, needs, medical issues and behaviors.
● Reporting any immediate safety hazards to appropriate supervisory personnel
● Maintaining the cleanliness and neatness of indoor and outdoor areas; performing antiseptic cleaning duties, laundry, and other housekeeping duties in living areas.
● Overseeing residents in daily chores and showing them the correct way to complete chores when necessary.
● Completing daily facility checklist and documenting any maintenance needs
● Transporting residents to and from school, medical appointments, extracurricular activities, etc.
● Assisting in intake and discharge procedures for residents.
● Enforcing Center behavior management system and house rules
● Supervising resident visits with family when requested
● Administering medication and completing the medication log daily
Residential Care Specialists will also:
● Support and promote parental involvement when appropriate.
● Maintain confidentiality.
● Contribute to teamwork and harmonious working relations.
● Use initiative and act independently.
● Attend and participate in required training sessions and staff meetings.
● Report to work on time and on a regular basis.
● Conduct oneself in an ethical manner.
● Treat residents and employees with integrity and respect
● Serve as a role model for residents.
● Adhere to safety, hygiene, health, and fire hazard guidelines; policies and procedures; mission and values.
● Report suspected child abuse and neglect to the Out of Home Abuse and Neglect Unit of SCDSS or to a law enforcement agency.
Residential Care Specialists must have of a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. At least two years of direct childcare supervision is preferred. Staff should be at least 21 years of age.
Residential Care Specialists are paid an hourly wage based on level of experience. Trent Hill Center employs up to 15 Residential Care Specialists at any given time. There will be at least six full-time Residential Care Specialists.
Full-time Residential Care Specialists have access to 15 days of paid vacation time per calendar year.
